This past week Brad Davis, associate director of development for Texas Tech Libraries, gave the Dickens County Spur Public Library and the Spur Dickens County Museum each a reproduction of the Spur Texas proposal from 1923 which had been presented to the Locating Board for the site of Texas Technological College. The reproduction was digitized by the Texas Tech University Libraries’ Southwest Collection Special Collections Library as part of a continuing effort to preserve the information in historical documents and make it available to library patrons.
We at the library are honored to have this copy for our patrons.
The library was gifted a copy of “Social Media Monsters: How to Survive Creeps with Keyboards” by the author, Mozelle Martin. Dr. Martin is a 35-year forensic handwriting expert and 25-year mental health professional. During her 14 years of education, she acquired a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology, a master’s in criminology, a certification in crime scene investigation, and a Ph.D. in applied ethics. Although she is also trained in body language, handwriting analysis remained her passion. Since 1987, she has been an international training provider, interactive conference presenter, and a writer’s consultant for the former “Criminal Minds” television show. She has also provided commentaries to various media outlets.
“Prepare to be inspired, educated, and equipped to make a difference in the battle against online hate”—this book serves as a powerful tool for anyone seeking to understand, confront, and overcome cyber-hatred in the digital age. As readers navigate the depths of cyber-hatred, the author's skillful use of sarcasm provides moments of respite.
If you haven’t filled out the form for school supplies, there is still time. All Dickens county students are eligible to receive school supplies. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library with funding from this community and businesses outside the community. The outpouring of donations of supplies and funding has exceeded expectations. A special thank you goes to First United Methodist Church of Spur, the Dickens County 4-H Club, Ann Walker, and Brady Hinson at South Plains Greenskeeper Drip Irrigation for their help in the school supply drive.
We will have a table set up at Spur ISD’s open house on Monday, Aug. 14. We will be signing up anyone who is interested in obtaining a library card. We will have information on some the advantages students have by having a library card. We will also have information on school supplies. We hope to see you there.
Check it all out at the library.
