School is back in session! Even though school has already started back up, if you need school supplies, come by the library and we will try to get you what you need. Patton Springs started back up Monday and Spur started back Wednesday. Our back to school supply drive was once again a huge success. Around sixty Dickens County students were furnished with school supplies for the 2023–24 school year. This is all made possible by the hard work of the Friends of the Library, a few volunteers, and donations of school supplies and money to buy school supplies from supporters of the library. Thank you to each and every one who helped out.
By the time the paper comes out I will have attended the Spur ISD open house. Hopefully we will have signed up many new patrons to the library. I am anxious to tell the parents and students about all of the wonderful benefits they have just by having a library card. The resources they can use for homework or research reaches way beyond the regular internet.
The library’s membership in the TexShare program offers more than 60 databases for our patrons to use. The only way to access it though is to be a member or have a library card with a participating library. These databases are not just for students. TexShare offers access to the entire Chilton Library, where do-it-yourselfers can access materials which will help them service, maintain, and do small repairs on their vehicles. Gale Legal Forms has access to all legal forms for the state of Texas in many different formats. Texshare has a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be explored.
Thanks to the Tocker Foundation we have added to our library in large print “Private Moscow” by James Patterson and Adam Hamdy. “Private Moscow” is touted as the best international investigation series since Jason Bourne. In this action packed thriller, an invitation from an old friend draws Private investigative agency founder, Jack Morgan into a deadly conspiracy.
Also courtesy of the Tocker Foundation we have Victoria Benton Frank’s “My Magnolia Summer.” Escape to the South Carolina lowcountry, where family bonds and hidden secrets run deep. In this gripping tale of self-discovery, Frank introduces us to Maggie, struggling to find her place in the world when she receives a phone call bringing her back to her hometown of Sullivan’s Island.
Check it all out at the library.
