LIBRARY NOTES

SPEC grant to provide T-mobile hotspots for checkout at Spur library

In January of 2022 we began a project funded by the Tocker Foundation for a period of twelve months with an additional four months funded by T-Moble. We were given ten T-Mobile devices with service capable of providing hotspot internet to patrons who checked them out.

The program was implemented as a way to help those in the community who otherwise would not have access to internet services. The program was a huge success, but it ceased when funding ended earlier this year. Many patrons who utilized the program have asked if we will be doing it again.

Thanks to the generosity of South Plains Electric Cooperative Operation Round up that answer is yes! The Friends of the Library has been awarded the Operation Round Up Community Grant in the amount of $1,500. With this funding we will be able to offer our patrons the use of four of the hotspots for a period of 12 more months. As soon as we get all of the paperwork completed I will let our patrons know in this column and on social media when the devices will be available to be checked out.

We would like to thank all of the hardworking men and women at South Plains Electric Cooperative and the Operation Round Up board of directors.
