The library has lost a devoted patron with the passing of Laurie Murphy. She was an avid reader and will be missed. Over the last few years, Laurie donated quite a few books to the library. A memorial was made to the Friends of the Library in her name.
Another memorial received was for Gayle Massaro. Gayle was associated with the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce. She was a caring and kind woman with a passion for animals. She will also be missed.
November 13 was World Kindness Day according to social media, so the library to it one step further and forgave overdue fines for the week of November 13 through November 16. We would like to keep it going through the end of the year. For those of you who have library books that are past due, if you will bring them back to the library by the end of December 2023, we will forgive any fines due. This does not include lost or damaged book fees. Although not a requirement, please pay it forward by helping out those in need. During the holidays donations are always needed at the local food bank and for the annual Angel Tree program.
We are hoping to have our T-Mobile Hotspot program up and running very soon. Right now we are just waiting on new SIM cards for the devices.
New books are being added regularly thanks to the grant received last April from the Tocker Foundation. New from bestselling author Danielle Steel is “Happiness,” an uplifting novel about an author who inherits a grand estate near London.
From New York Times bestselling author Linda Lael Miller, we have book four in the Painted Pony series. Just in time for the holidays “Christmas in Painted Pony Creek,” is a heartwarming read.
While at the Lubbock Book Festival I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with author D.K. Kerr, an award-winning author, a Texas Tech graduate, a retired middle school teacher and retired private investigator who collected and told stories for years and finally took the leap and wrote many of them down. Kerr is a longtime resident of West Texas. We have a copy of her book “Last Chance, Texas.”
Check it all out at the library.
