Christmas crafts at Spur library Dec. 3

We will have a Christmas craft night at the library on Monday, December 3, from 5:30 until 7:30. There will be different crafts available that will appeal to all ages. If you want to share a Christmas craft with others, please feel free to bring your materials and share with us.

Natalie Bright was another author I met and visited with at the Lubbock Book Festival. With a personality to match her name, Ms. Bright was a fascinating person to talk to. While most authors stayed in their assigned spot with books and other wares ready to sell and autograph, she was often seen at other author’s tables visiting with them. I waited until I had looked at all there was to offer before I made my mind up as to what to purchase for the library. When I went back to her table she was nowhere to be found. I finally tracked her down and purchased all of the books she had to offer at her table.

Bright is more than just a West Texas author; she is also a blogger and speaker. We talked about her coming to Spur next summer for our Collaborative Summer Reading Program. Hopefully she can fit us into her schedule.

She is also a very diverse author. The books I got for the library vary from a Western romance to a chuck wagon cookbook to children’s books. Her cookbook “Keep ’Em Full and Keep ’Em Rollin’: The All-American Chuck Wagon Cookbook” won a 1st place Gold Medal in cookbooks at the Will Rogers Medallion Awards for excellence in Western Literature.

Bright, in collaboration with Christian author Denise F. McAllister, has written The Wild Cow Series. We have book one of the series, “Maverick Heart.” We also have “The Great Train Caper,” a chapter book for kids ages 8-10 who love the Wild West, very smart horses, and Texas adventures. Another one we got for kids ages 6-12 is “Hanging Day.” In this Wild West Texas adventure there is a missing horse and an innocent teacher accused of the crime. Her only hope depends on two kids to solve the mystery and
