Cities and school boards in Dickens and Kent Counties are now accepting applications for candidates to run for city councils and school boards, as of January 18. The deadline for candidates to file is Friday, February 17.
In municipal elections, the following positions will be on the May 6 ballot.
For the City of Spur, the office of mayor, in which Louise Jones is the incumbent, is on the ballot, as are three council seats: Ward 1, currently held by Fronye Morris, who has announced that she will not be seeking re-election, Ward 2, currently held by Don Wright, and Ward 3, currently held by Rhea Melton.
For the City of Jayton, the mayor position, currently held by George Chisum, and two at-large council seats are on the ballot: the at-large positions are currently held by Missy Redford and Kerry McGee.
For the City of Dickens, the mayor position, currently held by David Warren, and two at-large council seats are on the ballot; the at-large positions are currently held by Marie Mullins and Stephen Hart.
In area school district board races, Spur ISD has two board seats on the ballot, Place 5, currently held by Matt Humphreys and Place 6, at large, currently held by Barry Ferguson.
Jayton-Girard ISD has two board seats on the ballot, atlarge seats currently held by B.J. Baldridge and Jeff Arnold.
Patton Springs ISD holds their elections in November. The Texas Spur will update candidate filings each week until the February 17 deadline.
