The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering will be held in person once again February 18-19, 2022 in Alpine, Texas, on the campus of Sul Ross State University.
Organizers invite fans to “come join us in scenic Alpine as we preserve Western culture through the work of some of the best cowboy poets and musicians in the country.”
“For 33 years,” said current organizer Bob Saul of Fort Worth, “the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Alpine was a cowboy poetry destination not to be missed.” In February 2019, that gathering ended. Determined not to let the tradition of cowboy poetry in the region die out, a committed group of volunteers formed a new organization— the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering.
The inaugural Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held Feb. 21–22, 2020.
More than forty scheduled performers who know cowboy life from the inside. Tickets are now on sale to the general public, after the organization’s member and sponsor early access period. Visit www. lonestarcowboypoetry. com or call (432) 216-2167.
Saul said longtime fans won’t want to the “Taste of the Gathering” session on Friday morning Feb. 21, with Jack George, Rod Taylor, Mary Abbott, Brenn Hill, Andy Hedges, Ross Knox, Daron Little, Andy Nelson, Brigid and Johnny Reedy, Randy Rieman, Kristyn Harris, and Dave Stamey all on the bill.
The ticketed shows, free sessions, chuckwagon breakfasts, keynote address, open mic sessions, Youth Poetry Contest, and Saturday night dance promise to be better than ever, and the high desert air and mountain views of Alpine can’t be beat. New this year are a catered supper each night at the Alpine Civic Center, a mandolin workshop, and a guitar workshop.
