Last Friday, April 1, at 4:20 a.m., 26-year-old Austin D. Redder of Lubbock, was killed as a result of injuries sustained during a crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 82 seven miles east of Crosbyton.
Redder had been driving westbound on U.S. 82 when he traveled straight through a right curve in the road. His vehicle, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, traveled into the grassy center median and “took evasive action.” The Elantra crossed both lanes of travel and struck a guardrail, coming to rest on the roadway, partially occupying the improved shoulder and the right travel lane, according to the report.
Redder survived the crash but stepped out of the Elantra and was standing in the left lane of westbound U.S. 82 when he was then struck by a 2016 Dodge Journey driven by Debrah Atkinson, 68, of Spur. Redder suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the accident. Road conditions were clear and dry and the speed limit 75 mph, according to the DPS report.
Atkinson, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Redder was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
