The Friends of the Library received memorial donations this past week for Paula Foreman Crausbay, Connie Warren, Sandra Taylor, and Monty Joplin. Our deepest sympathies go out to their families.
Somewhere towards the end of 2021 we had a guest speaker come to the library and give a talk on the differences between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Ryan Blake from Kemper Health told those of us who attended how they work, and how in certain circumstances one might be better than the other and vice versa. I got enough information from his presentation to make a decision on which one would serve me best. For those of you who are fixing to turn 65, I would encourage you to attend his next presentation we will schedule for a Saturday in May. I will get the exact date soon. He will answer any questions you might have regarding the subject matter. If you would like to be reminded of the event please contact me at the library to be put on the list to get a text message or email the week of the event.
May is turning out to be a busy month for the library. I’m sure you are all looking forward to our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Pile on supper the Friends of the library will be having on Thursday, May 5. For a suggested donation of $10 you will receive a meal, drink and dessert. May is also the month that Helping Hands of Dickens County will be donating their proceeds after expenses to the Friends of the Library.
As promised, more of the children’s books that were donated are on the shelves and ready to be checked out. Among them are “Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born” by bestselling author and Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis; “Fergus: A Horse to be Reckoned With” by Jean Abernethy; “Hairy Maclary Shoo” and “Hairy Maclary’s Rumpus at the Vet” by Lynley Dodd; and “The Foolish Turtle” by Anna Wilson.
We received some large print books purchased with funds from the Tocker Foundation grant last week as well. “Fear Thy Neighbor” is a thrilling new novel by New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels. One woman’s picture-perfect island sanctuary reveals itself to be filled with dangers in this exciting pageturner. John Lescroart brings back his New York Times bestselling Dismas Hardy series in “The Missing Piece.”
