Staff of Minnesotabased construction firm Mortenson recently took time away from their demanding work schedule at the Texas Solar Nova facility in Kent County to lend a hand in West Texas. Project team members contributed non-perishable food items over the course of several weeks leading up to a donation to the Spur Area Food Bank on November 11.
“Oneofourfavoriteways to celebrate the holidays is to support local food banks,” said project manager Chris Chappell. “Giving back to the neighborhoods where we live and work has been part of our culture for 68 years. Our team members are driven to make a difference and it comes from the heart—donating and volunteering to improve their own communities.”
Although Mortenson crews may be far from their home base, many of the workers have been on site at the project being built southwest of Spur since spring, and they consider themselves a part of the local community.
“We are overwhelmed by the Mortensen genorisity,” said Tony Ratliff, organizer of the Spur Area Food Bank. “It will enable us to meet the needs of our clients through the holidays.” Chappell added that his team “was excited to support the community in this way and would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season.”
