MOTLEY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT: HADLEIGH HALSELL

Hadleigh Halsell, daughter of Josh and Courtney Halsell, attends Motley County ISD and lives on the Tongue River Ranch. She has three siblings, Skyler, Seth and Taylor. She plans to attend Clarendon College to rodeo for the rodeo team and pursue a degree in ag business. “I would like to further my career once out of college in breakaway roping,” said Halsell.

DICKENS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT TRISTEN MARTIN

Tristen Martin is an only child in a household with mom and dad— and four dogs, a cat, and three horses. “The people of this area have provided endless support and are always willing to lend a helping hand to those facing dire circumstances,” she said. “I hope to utilize these opportunities and the benevolence that both this town and business have provided in order to flourish in the future.”

At Spur High School Martin participated in cheerleading, cross country, basketball, track, BPA, NHS, FCCLA, UIL Academics, one-act play and 4-H, and held several class offices. She also took dual credit classes, graduating with thirty-eight college hours. She considers her highest achievement in her high school career to be placing fifth at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference.

Martin has been accepted to the Texas Tech University School of Engineering, where she plans to pursue a degree in civil engineering and will enroll in the Honors College. “Combining the world of engineering to help impoverished citizens has been my goal for an exceedingly long time,” she said, and with the rodeo scholarship, she feels she has the opportunity to reach those goals.
