Our 2021–22 school supply drive has been a huge success. As of this writing we have supplied over 61 Dickens County schoolchildren with school supplies. We were able to get almost everything on the lists. Some we couldn’t find. Some we had to order, but most of the supplies were either donated or bought locally.
A special thanks to Laurie Robinson and Christy Marshall at Helping Hands of Dickens County. These two ladies help so many people all of the time. Thank you to Becky Vargas at Dollar General; she is truly an asset to our community. Thank you also to Ann McArthur—she furnished many of the supplies and most of the backpacks. Brady Hinson with South Plains Greenkeeper Drip Irrigation gave a very generous donation for the drive. Many of the parents who picked up the supplies wanted me to thank the donors on their behalf. I have heard more than once this week that this has helped them so much. Thank you also to Paige Gonzalez and Laney Weiser for helping me sort the supplies.
Most of the books ordered with the grant from the Texas Book Festival have arrived at the library. It may take a little time getting them all in the system. This is just a sampling of what we have received:
Anyone who reads Christian fiction loves Tracie Peterson. We received in large print the first in her new Lady of the Lake series, “Forever My Own.” Fans of Marie Benedict’s fictional biographies will be pleased to know we have her latest, “The Personal Librarian.”
Most of our readers love a good suspenseful thriller. For them we have “Ace Atkins: The Heathens” by Quinn Colson, “Another Kind of Eden” by James Lee Burke, “The Saboteurs” by Clive Cussler and “The Final Twist” from Jeffrey Deaver.
One I have been waiting for since I heard him speak at Texas Library Association convention is Danny Trejo’s biography, “Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption and Hollywood.” We also got Brad Thor’s “Black Ice” in both large print hardcover and the audio book on CDs. There are many more.
We also got our new children’s easy readers and board books. A new section we will be adding to the library shelves is our children’s large print. I am very excited about this new section and will give you more details soon.
Check it all out at the Library!
