Spur’s homecoming is right around the corner. After last year’s pandemic canceling most of the annual homecoming events, this year could turn out bigger than ever. Don’t forget to join us at the Dickens County Spur Public Library for our very first Homecoming Meet and Greet. Connect with some old friends and meet some new ones on Friday, October 1, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.
Fans of suspense and thrillers should be pleased. The library received a very generous donation of this genre of books last week. Most of them were hardback books in excellent condition. The authors ranged from James Patterson to Janet Evanovich. I was pleased to find there were many we did not have on our shelves. We did already have all of the James Patterson collection donated, so if you are a Patterson fan and would like to add to your collection you can do so by visiting our book sale room and making a donation to the Friends of the Library.
We had most of the Janet Evanovich books as well, but there were a few we were able to add to the library’s collection. From her Stephanie Plum novels we added “Look Alive Twenty-Five.” Plum faces the toughest puzzle of her career in this 25th entry in Evanovich’s bestselling series. Also from the series we have “Fortune and Glory: Tantalizing Twenty-Seven,” in which Plum faces the biggest case of her career and the adventure of a lifetime. Evanovich, together with Emmy Award-winning coauthor Phoef Sutton, brings us “Wicked Charms: A Lizzy & Diesel Novel.” “Wicked Charms” is a swashbuckling adventure full of raiders, monkeys, minions and mayhem. Lizzy and Diesel are going to have to do everything they can to keep their heads above water and hope they’re living a charmed life.
Also new to us is Jessica Barry’s “Freefall.” Told from the perspectives of a mother and daughter separated by distance but united by an unbreakable bond, “Freefall” is a heart-stopping, propulsive thriller about two tenacious women overcoming unimaginable obstacles to protect themselves and the ones they love.
“Charley’s Web” from New York Times bestselling author Joy Fielding tells the story of an ambitious journalist whose foray into the mind of a killer puts her own family in jeopardy.
In September 2019, New York Times bestselling author Christina Dodd’s “Strangers She Knows” was named Amazon Best Book of the Month. Living on an obscure, technologyfree island off California means safety from the murderer who hunts Kellen Adams and her new family.... Or does it? Family time becomes terror-time, and at last, alone, Kellen faces a killer playing a cruel game. Only one can survive, and Kellen knows who must win...and who must die.
In “Storm of Visions” Dodd introduces the Chosen Ones, a secret society dedicated to fighting evil in all its forms. When the world was young, twins were born. One brought light to a dark world; the other brought pain. Gathering others with similar gifts around them, they began a battle that would last eons…and threaten the fate of the modern world. Jacqueline has always denied her gifts as a seer, but it’s hard to say no to brutally handsome Caleb when he asks her to join the Chosen Ones. But is he her destiny or her downfall? Unsure of the answer, she begins a breathless adventure, one that would unleash a storm of visions…and push her power—and passion—beyond all limits.
