New books, new readers at the Spur library

This year’s homecoming in Spur was a big success. A young man I rode the school bus with so many years ago was named Outstanding Ex-Student of the year. Congratulations to Kevin Bass!

The library hosted the first Homecoming Meet and Greet the Author. I met a few of the most interesting and pleasant people during this time. I am sure friendships were formed that will last a lifetime. I would love to make this an annual event. If you have suggestions for next year’s authors, please let me know.

We have been offering a few programs here at the library. This past Saturday Legal Aid of Northwest Texas presented a free informational community program about wills, end of life documents, and other probate matters. They will be available to come back after the first of the year to do the program again if there is enough interest.

On Thursday, October 14, at 11 a.m. there will be a Medicare informational meeting at the library, covering differences between traditional Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage plans.

During the busy homecoming weekend we received a donation of four Louis L’Amour books from Ike McArthur in memory of his mother Ethel McArthur. Thank you very much for the donation. The books we received are “The Rustlers of West Fort,” “Troubleshooter,” “The Riders of High Rock” and “The Trail to Seven Pines.” We did not have a copy of “The Rustlers of West Fork” on our shelves before this donation.

Another donation we recently received was a collection of DVDs. These are now on our shelves and ready to check out: “Mystery Alaska,” “Kate and Leopold,” Failure to Launch,” “Must Love Dogs,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “3:10 to Yuma,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “The Good Shepherd,” “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,” “The Next Three Days,” “Master and Commander,” “State of Play,” “Body of Lies,” “Cinderella Man,” “Virtuosity,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Romper Stomper” and “Heaven’s Burning.”

Check it all out at the library.
