New books, new readers at the Spur library

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s hard to believe this year is almost over. We will be at Spur’s annual Late Night Shopping at the community center on December 2, selling raffle tickets for the Giant Inflatable Mickey Mouse Christmas yard decoration. We will draw a winner near the end of Late Night Shopping. You can also get your tickets at the library or from any library board member. The tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The prize was donated by Gemmy Industries.

We would like to thank a few more local businesses who donated items for door prizes and the silent auction at the Chili Supper on Saturday. Thank you to Crystal’s Massage, The Texas Spur, Karen Hurdt with Jerry Baird Spices, the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce, Star Feed and Seed, Spur Apiary, Spur Hardware, Dana’s Pharmacy and Lawrence Brothers Grocery Store.

The library received memorial donations in memory of Sandra Taylor and Michelle McDaniel this past week. Sandra was an avid reader, and although her health kept her from coming into the library lately, we still made sure she had books to read. In Michelle’s short time residing in Spur she made an impact on the library. She and husband Michael donated and installed the Ring doorbell we have. She made several donations of craft supplies during her stay in Spur. Our condolences go out to the families of both of these women.

Released in April of this year is “Legacy of War,” a nail-biting story of courage, bravery, rebellion and war from the master of adventure fiction, Wilber Smith. Also from Smith we have “The Call of the Raven,” an action-packed and gripping adventure about one man's quest for revenge, the brutality of slavery in America and the imbalance between humans that can drive or defeat us

New in large print from bestselling author Jeffrey Archer, we have “Over My Dead Body,” a story of murder, revenge and betrayal. Stephanie Plum returns to fight a new kind of criminal in “Game On” from bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

Death isn't unexpected in a nursing home, but murder is in “The Grandmother Plot” from bestselling author, Caroline Cooney.

Check it all out at the library.
