The library received a memorial donation in honor of Paula Dean Forman Crausbay, a 1959 graduate of Spur High School and the sister of retired library director Merla Watson. Our deepest sympathies go out to Merla and her family.
Helping Hands of Dickens County has pledged the proceeds of their sales for the month of May to the Friends of the Dickens County Spur Library. Helping Hands and the volunteers that keep it going is a huge asset to our community. Their dedication to helping everyone in our community is commendable. Thank you, Laurie Robinson and Christy Marshall. The world needs more people like you two.
This April, I will be attending my first live Texas Library Association conference, in downtown Fort Worth. I have attended the last two years virtually. I hope to be able to bring back everything I learn and make our great little library even better.
I am looking forward to seeing and thanking in person the people from the Tocker Foundation. The funding we receive from the Tocker Foundation helps keep our library and many other rural libraries up to the standards of the larger and more affluent libraries. They helped us acquire the T-Mobile hotspots we have here available for our patrons to check out. People who otherwise wouldn’t have access to internet can now check out a hotspot at the library and search for jobs, help their children with homeschooling, check in with family and loved ones on social media, and stream movies just to name a few.
The T-Mobile Hotspots have been very popular. They can be checked out for two weeks at time and may be renewed if no one is waiting for one. We still have two available to be checked out. You either need to have a valid library card or get one, be over the age of 18, and live within the county.
New to the library in DVD format is season 4 of the popular television series “Yellowstone.” We already had seasons 1 through 3, so if you are a fan of the series and want to watch it again or someone who has heard all the hype and want to see for yourself what all of the talk is about come see us at the library and check it out.
Released just earlier this month we have “Run Rose Run,” written by country music superstar Dolly Parton and New York Times bestselling author James Patterson. New York Times bestselling author Kathleen Grissom calls the novel “a suspenseful tale of a young musician desperate to escape her troubled past. . . . A thrilling journey from two beloved voices, set against the backdrop of the country music scene.”
