New books, new readers at the Spur library

Mark your calendars for Thursday May 5, 2022, aka Cinco de Mayo. The Friends of the Library will be having a Fiesta Pile-On fundraising supper from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the library. For a suggested donation of $10 you will get a meal, drink and dessert to either eat in or carry out.

Also in the month of May, be sure and visit Helping Hands of Dickens County. All proceeds after expenses from sales at their thrift store will be going to the Friends of the Dickens County Spur Public Library. Please support Helping Hands of Dickens County not just in May, but in every month. They give so much to our community. They also have some really cool things for sale.

The library received a very generous donation of several boxes of gently used children’s books left at our door this past week. We have been busy getting them ready to put on the shelves. Most of them were titles we did not have. There are board books for the toddlers and easy readers for the older children. Thank you so much to our anonymous donor!

Four of the easy readers are from Jane O’Connor’s Fancy Nancy series. We have “Fancy Nancy at the Museum,” “Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris,” “Fancy Nancy and the Sensational Babysitter,” and “Fancy Nancy and the Late, Late, Late Night.” We have “The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big-Big Dark” by Deborah Dieson, “Pinkalicious” by Victoria Kann, “Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy” by David Soman, “Sloppy Joe” by Dave Keane, and “Princess Pig” by Eileen Spinelli, just to name a few.

We received a few more large-print books bought with funds received with a grant from the Tocker Foundation. From New York bestselling author Meg Cabot we have a charming romance between a children's librarian and the town sheriff in the second book in the Little Bridge Island series. Clever, hilarious, and fun, “No Offense” will tug at listener heartstrings and make them fall in love with Little Bridge Island and its unique characters.

Also in large print we have “Along the Rio Grande” from one of our favorite Christian fiction authors, Tracie Peterson. We also have several new large print western fiction books. By William W. and J.A. Johnstone we have “Never Seen Deader,” “Blood in the Dust,” and “Buzzard’s Bluff,” and from Brett Cogburn we have “This Side of Hell.”

Check it all out at the library.
