New books, new readers at the Spur library

May is turning into quite a busy month for the library. On Thursday May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) the Friends of the Library will be having a Fiesta Pile On Supper at the library beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. For a suggested donation of $10 you will receive a main dish, a dessert and a drink. The event is sponsored in part by Cap Rock Telephone Inc., and Lawrence Brothers Grocery Store.

Also, Helping Hands of Dickens County is generously donating their proceeds, minus their operating expenses, to the Friends of the Library for the month of May. Helping Hands is open Wednesdays from noon until 5:00 p.m. and again on Fridays from noon until 5:00 p.m. Please support your local library by shopping there during the month of May.

Another exciting event happening at the library in May is a morning of writing instruction and discussion when we host the Texas Writes Program brought to us by the Writers’ League of Texas and the Tocker Foundation on Saturday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. Arianne “Tex” Thompson will lead us with “Writers of the Purple Sage: Adding Western Elements to your Work,” and WLT executive director Becka Oliver shares with us “The Path to Publication.” The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Please pre-register by calling the library at (806) 271-3714. Walk-ins will be accepted.

New to the library this week is New York Times bestseller “High Stakes.” In this captivating novel from Danielle Steel, five successful women play for high stakes in their careers at a boutique literary and talent agency.

From bestselling author, Jane Corry we have “The Dead Ex.” One man's disappearance throws four women's lives into chaos—who will survive? Therese Anne Fowler’s “A Good Neighborhood” asks big questions about life in America today―what does it mean to be a good neighbor? How do we live alongside each other when we don't see eye to eye? As it explores the effects of class, race, and heartrending love in a story that’s as provocative as it is powerful.

Check it all out at the library.
