Thank you to all who supported the Friends of the Library this past week during our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Supper fundraiser. The fundraiser was a huge success. We would like to especially thank James Robinson at Lawrence Brothers for donating the groceries and Jimmy Whitefield at Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative for donating the water.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Spur Masonic Lodge for awarding me with the very prestigious Community Builder Award. I will do my best to continue applying the same principles to my work at the library and the community.
The Texas Writes program will be here in just a few short days. I have had several people sign up to attend. Although I have no aspirations of becoming a published author, I am excited to learn about the process. I am sure the programming will be entertaining. There is still time to register with the library to attend the sessions, and walk-ins are welcome if space is available. Refreshments will be served. It is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. Saturday will be a very busy day in Spur, beginning with the Texas Writes Program at the library, followed by Cap-Rock’s membership meeting and ending with Tumbleweed Smith and area musicians Lucy Dean Record and DeAnne Roberts at the Palace Theater.
Recently added to our young adult fiction collection is Rick Riordan’s “Daughter of the Deep.” The New York Times #1 best-selling author pays homage to Jules Verne in his exciting modern take on “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
In juvenile fiction we have “Pony” from R. J. Palacio, bestselling author of “Wonder.” He returns with an enthralling adventure about a boy on a quest to rescue his father, with only a ghost as his companion and a mysterious pony as his guide.
One of the books I brought back from the conference is the young adult epic fantasy “The Story King” by Matt Mikalatos. I also brought back a juvenile graphic novel, “The Extincts: Quest for the Unicorn Horn” by Scott Magoon.
Check it out at the library.
