We have a new poetry book on our shelves courtesy of our own local author and editor of the Texas Spur newspaper, Barbara Brannon.
Brannon studied poetry with James Dickey at the University of South Carolina, where she earned the MA and PhD in American literature. She is coauthor, with Kay Ellington, of the Paragraph Ranch series of Texas novels, and, writing as Will Brandon, author of “The Wolf Hunt: A Tale of the Texas Badlands,” 2021 winner of a copper Will Rogers Medallion Award in mystery and finalist for the Western Fictioneers Award in fiction. She is also a twotime honoree in the Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest and the author of “The Ferries of North Carolina: Traveling the State’s Nautical Highways.”
I received the book just a day or so before I had to go out of town for a few days, so I haven’t had the chance to give it the time it deserves. I did however notice the poem “Fourteen” (as in 14 degrees) is in the book. Anyone who has had to break the ice for their livestock on those cold winter mornings will appreciate this writing. Reading it bringsbackmemoriesofmy dad. I can see his face when reading her words. He, too, could think of poorer ways to spend a day.
I have had many people ask me when we will be getting “Storm Watch,” the newest novel from C.J. Box’s Joe Pickett series. It was finally released in February and we now have it available at the library. You may want to get in line for this highly anticipated new release because there is already a couple of people with a reserve on it. In “Storm Watch” Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility. If this one is checked out you might want to get “Too Proud to Run” by award winning western author Brett Cogburn. If a thriller is what you are looking for, we have the latest in the Ali Reynolds series from bestselling author J.A. Jance, “Collateral Damage.”
Also available is “A Resting Place,” a heart-thumping, unforgettable novel of horror and suspense by international sensation Camilla Sten. The website, Goodreads, says “A Resting Place” was one of the most popular in horror in 2022. Finally we have a new series from romantic suspense author Lori Foster with “The Dangerous One,” book one of two in the Osborn Brothers series.
Don’t forget to bring your pre-schoolers to story time with Miss Charlotte Tuesdays at 3:00.
Check it all out at the library.
