It has been a very busy few weeks here at the library. For one thing I have been preparing to go to Austin for the Texas Library Association’s Annual Conference. I am hoping to gain knowledge that will help the library to better serve the community. The conference offers workshops and programming just for that purpose.
One of the cutest things to hear your little one say when they first begin to speak is, “I did it!”
“I Did It” is also the name of a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award–winning children’s book we recently added. Michael Emberly has written a fun comic that kindergarteners and first graders can read on their own. Learning to ride a bike is hard. Can I do it? Yes, I can! Simple text that new readers can read by themselves, along with delightful pictures in a comic format, show a little creature trying and trying again as they learn to ride a bicycle. All their friends help with supportive words of encouragement. “You did it!” their friends exclaim.
Charlotte’s story time is every Tuesday afternoon at 3:00. Story time is a wonderful way for your preschool age children to begin the process of interacting with other children before they start school. Charlotte has activities for the children to do along with the stories she shares. There are puzzles here that they can either do here or take home with them to do. We added a couple of donated books to the shelves last week. “Sophia of Silicon Valley” is a contemporary women’s fiction written by Anna Yen. The other one is actually two books in one. It is William W. Johnstone’s “Measure of a Man: Smoke Jenson, American Legend.” Smoke Jensen calls the mountains home. The unforgiving wilderness taught him to survive. There’s no creature he hasn’t fought. There’s no storm he hasn’t weathered. And there’s no man in the untamed West who doesn’t fear his name. “The Measure of a Man” collects two adventures of New York Times bestselling author William W. Johnstone’s champion of the American frontier in one volume.
Check it all out at the library.
