A dedicated group of recreational golfers has worked hard over the past year to ensure that Spur continues to make its historic and popular municipal links available even after the retirement of longtime manager Mike Day.
The city of Spur at its Dec. 21, 2021, regular council meeting approved the request of the club, on behalf of its representative Woodie McArthur, to assume the management contract of the golf course from Day. McArthur acknowledged the countless hours Day had devoted to taking care of the maintenance and all duties at the course.
The new club expressed thanks to Day “for all of his tremendous hard work and dedication for keeping the course in such great shape for the use and enjoyment of our community.”
Proper steps are being finalized for the contract transfer to be official.
The Spur Golf Association has elected a board of directors and officers have been installed as follows: Woodie McArthur, president; Jason Tanner, vice president; Charla Parsons, secretary; Betsy Arnold, treasurer.
Additional board members are Riley Abbott, Tyler Luke and Landon White.
The association has set its first fund-raiser of 2022, selling Super Bowl squares with two separate payout pots. One board is $25 per square with payouts of $500 per quarter. Anyone interested in participating should contact Tyler Luke at (806) 269-1606 or Landon White at (806) 422-0090.
