At its regularly scheduled meeting June 24, Jayton-Girard ISD trustees approved hiring Nathan Branum as Pre-K through 12 principal, to replace Lyle Lackey, who accepted a position in Decatur, Texas, earlier in June.
Branum comes to Jayton from Abernathy, Texas, where he has been head boys’ basketball coach. Prior to that he served school districts in Clyde, Nazareth and Frenship. Branum and his wife, Amanda, have four children: eleven-year-old twin daughters Sydney and Kyndrey, nine-year-old son Maddox, and six-year-old daughter Ackerly.
“Mr. Branum and his family have had very successful experiences in education, but maybe most impressive is their reputation of serving others and the way they work to build relationships with their kids and those they work with,” said superintendent Layne Sheets, who took up his own post with JGISD June 1. “We are very excited and grateful to have the Branum family coming to Jayton.”
Branum will begin responsibilities at JGISD July 1.
The school board’s next regular meeting date will be Thursday, July 29, 2021.
