After serving Patton Springs ISD since 2018, head football coach Eric Johnson has accepted a new positon. Johnson will be leaving six-man football behind for an 11-man football team at Burkeville High School, near the Louisiana border.
Johnson is excited to relocate to Burkeville, near where he was previously stationed as a member of the United States Army at Fort Polk. He tells us that while he will miss this special group of young men and young women at Patton, that he must do exactly what he’s always taught them to do.
“We don’t tell them to just stop at some point in their life and just keep with the status quo, (but to take the) opportunity to fail, but have the self respect to succeed.” Johnson will serve as head football coach in Burkeville as well.
Coach Johnson is passionate about his Rangers and Lady Rangers, stating, “I'm going to miss watching a special bunch of young men and women believing in me when sometimes they did not believe in themselves. I’m going to miss watching parents believe in me and what I could do for their biggest investment and trusting it. I’m going to miss the looks in the locker room when we were at our worst and at our best. Most of all ill miss the faces, the voices, the hugs, THE RANGERS AND LADY RANGERS!”
Johnson sends well wishes with them all, leaving the comment,“—were loved with every fiber of me and made me a better Coach, and person.”
Johnson will finish out the year serving Pattons Springs ISD, but has already begun working with Burkeville in order to start his first season off strong this coming fall.
