In a Facebook posting Monday, state senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock), who represents this area, made the following assessment of the Texas Division of Emergency Management disaster relief program.
“Confirmed: Rural West Texas counties are being left behind. All of the counties shaded in yellow have NOT received a disaster declaration for Individual Assistance (IA) from the federal government. Individual assistance CAN help pay for burst pipes, lost food, and other rebuilding efforts. How ever, we have confirmed from the Texas Division of Emergency Management that residents who fill out the damage assessment survey have succeeded in helping get their county added to the declaration.”
Perry urges individuals and businesses to “Fill out the survey here if your county is highlighted in yellow” (i.e., not yet declared a state disaster area). The link may be found on Perry’s Facebook page or by searching the term “Texas Disaster Impacts Self-Reporting Tool.”
