The Patton Springs Rangers faced off against the Guthrie Jaguars this past Thursday night for what would be their final game of the season. With several seniors on each team, this one turned out to be a fight until the end.
The Rangers drew first blood with senior Ralph Garza striking a blow to the Jags with a 20-yard rushing touchdown the early in the first quarter. Guthrie would then answer back a 20-yard rushing TD of their own.
The teams battled back and forth to the end of the first with the Rangers leading 20–14.
The Jaguars would not go down easy coming back in the second with two consecutive TD and conversions, an interception and another TD following. The Rangers, however, would also have an answer with Garza scor ing another rushing TD, followed by an interception from junior Devon Reyna.
At the end of the half the Rangers trailed the Jags.
Coming out after the half, both teams would continue to fight vigorously. Reyna showed up in a huge way with two back-to-back touchdown receptions from freshman Michael Garza
Also showing up on the radar, senior David Leyva would have defensive run of five consecutive stops to cause a crucial turnover on downs for the Jags.
Though the Rangers would fight to the end, the Jags would make one final statement, stopping the Rangers on the 2-yard line and causing the game clock to run out. The game would end in a heartbreaking loss for the Rangers with a score of 53–54 as Jaguars would take the win.
