“Proud of these young fellas,” read the post on the Facebook account of the Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion & Rodeo, which was congratulating the winners in its first youth ranch rodeo. While you might not expect an organization that’s been holding a rodeo for 99 years to be adept at social media, they kept friends and followers up to date this time around with some admirable graphics and the considerable talents of official event photographer Scott Slusher.
In addition to county and RHAA events on Thursday and Friday, the WRCA events on Saturday night turned out qualifiers for the finals in Amarillo this year.
First place at the Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion & Rodeo youth ranch rodeo went to the Hat Creek / EC Cattle team of Easton Calhoun, Cash Calhoun, Macawley Calhoun, Blaine Roberts and Kasen Brewer.
The top four teams in the ranch rodeo were #1, 6666 Dixon Creek Division; #2, Circle M8 Ranch; #3, Singleton Ranch; and #4, WT Waggoner Ranch.
The Top Hand prize and the Will Burgess custom saddle went to Waylon Davis of EC Cattle/Mule Creek.
Top Horse was “Tuffy, ridden by Elwyn McCleskey of the Tongue River Ranch. The duo takes home a pair of custom Clint Martin spurs.
Top bronc rier was Colton Jackson of Smith Cattle, with 85 points. Inside and on the back page this week and next, we’ll share some of those social media graphics, along with our own photographs. We suggest you go ahead and mark your calendars now for 2023, for the last Thursday through Saturday in August!
