Santa to arrive in Spur 6 p.m. Dec. 16 during Late Night Shopping event; vendors to set up at Community Center

An annual tradition in Spur, “Late Night Shopping” will be held Saturday, Dec. 16 in downtown Spur. The event was recently shifted from December 7— its traditional weeknight slot—at the request of the Spur Masonic Lodge, which hopes to see a more robust turnout for its eagerly anticipated Pancake Supper on a weekend night.

So although Santa Claus will be stopping by Spur’s Palace Theater for visits with kids a bit later in the month than usual, he’ll have this week’s Letters to Santa already in hand from The Texas Spur to help him out.

Santa is expected to arrive at the Palace at 6 p.m. (NOTE—earlier than the 7 p.m. time previously announced). The theater, located at 422 Burlington Ave., will be open for refreshments and public restrooms as well.

Local craft and food vendors will be down the street at the Spur Community Center, 502 Burlington Ave., for a holiday market from 5 to 8 p.m.

TheSpurMasonicLodge, at 309 Burlington Ave., will host their pancake supper from 6 to 8 p.m.

A variety of businesses and eateries will be open downtown, including The Texas Spur, Ole Town Café, and Turnaround Top Café.

At press time, Jeromy Rutledge of Spur Hardware and The Spur Mercantile informed the newspaper that due to illness throughout his family, those businesses will unfortunately not be open during Late Night Shopping.

There are still a few booths available; contact the Spur Chamber of Commerce at (806) 271-3097 or email at spurchamber@gmail.com.
