Jayton’s Tye Scogin has been selected as the 2020 Abilene Reporter-News’ All-Big Country boys basketball Class 1A MVP.
The 5-foot-9 senior guard averaged 15.5 points, 6.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 steals in leading the Jaybirds (31-4) to their second consecutive state tournament, the program’s first two appearances.
In the regionals Scogin went 21 of 23 from the free-throw line to send Jayton back to the state tournament. Scogin's ball security and clutch shooting down the stretch helped ice wins over Irion County and district rival Paducah.
Scogin, a four-year starter, was an all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association. He was also District 15-1A MVP.
Over his career, Scogin appeared in 110 wins, which included three trips to the region tournament.
