In the monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees on February 28, superintendent Craig Hamilton presented the board with the monthly facilities reported and updated trustees on communication with Argo Blockchain.
In other action Hamilton provided the board updates for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) options for school bus drivers and possible directions to move with for future transportation purchases.
Hamilton shared the board the dates of the Texas Association of School Board Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) and told them about the Apache Tree Corporation grant and possible locations to plant trees.
The board approved the budget calendar for the 2022–23 school year. In other board action, they approved the certification of unopposed candidates for the May 7, 2022 school board election and approved the order of cancellation for the school board trustee election scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2022.
Trustees approved a resolution authorizing a letter of waiver for the payment in lieu of taxes for the Housing Authority of Spur.
Trustees approved the 2021– 22 District Improvement Plan as presented.
The board approved Concrete Innovations to repurpose the elementary school flooring, as presented.
The board convened into executive session at 8:08 p.m. to discuss personnel and ended its closed session at 9:33 p.m.
Action in open session on personnel items deliberated on in closed session:
The board approved extending secondary principal Michael Norman’s current contract by one year from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2024, and approved extending elementary principal Jose Molina’s current contract from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
Members present were Barry Ferguson, Roy Sanchez, Pat Ortiz, Terri Wyatt, and Casey Smith. Rick Paschall and Matt Humphreys were absent.
Others present were superintendent Craig Hamilton; high school principal Michael Norman, elementary school principal Jose Molina, business manager Jodi Martinez, and superintendent secretary April Ortiz.
