SISD receives $210,000 grant from TEA

In the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District Board of Trustees on November 27, 2023, Superintendent Craig Hamilton explained that Spur ISD had applied for and received a Texas Education Agency Safety and Security Enhancement Grant. The amount of the new grant is about $210,000.

In other action, Hamilton reported that processes are taking place and timelines are being constructed for the outside door and glass replacement that were mandated by state law. The funds being used are from the Safety and Security Grant that Spur ISD received last year.

Hamilton discussed bids that have been received for new fencing around the playground and school buildings.

The board then walked through the school and discussed possibilities of adding safety vestibules at the elementary and secondary entrances.

In other action Principal Jose Molina presented the board with the Elementary report and Principal Tanya Phillips presented the board with the Secondary report. Athletic Director Tate Clark presented the board with the athletic department report, and Tommy Dill presented the board with the safety and security report.

Trustees unanimously approved the 2022-2023 audit as presented. They then unanimously approved the 2024 senior trip to Disneyland as presented.

The board then approved the TASB policy update 122 and the SHARS Medical Reimbursement changes.

The board then discussed the superintendent evaluation process.

President Roy Sanchez called the meeting to order with the following members present: Pat Ortiz, Cody Schmidt, Terri Wyatt, Matt Humphreys, and Casey Smith. Andrew Adams was absent.

Others present were Superintendent Craig Hamilton; Secondary Principal Tanya Phillips, Elementary Principal Jose Molina, Athletic Director Tate Clark, Tommy Dill, Business Manager Bridgette Zarate, Superintendent Secretary April Ortiz and Auditor Randel Terry.
