SpurMethodistChurch announced this week that Scott Gray has accepted the position of pastor. The announcement was made during the morning worship service on Sunday, June 4.
Gray, who with his family spent some time in Spur in 2021 and 2022 during a preaching rotation, said that they “fell in love with the community then.”
Gray was raised in Spade, Texas, a rural farming community about thirty miles from Lubbock, on a cotton farm, and attended Spade Methodist Church. After graduating from Spade High School, he attended South Plains College and then Texas Tech, earning a Bachelor of Science in human development and family studies. In 2019 he received a Masters of Art in Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary. He has served in ministry, both volunteer and full time, for over 20 years. Scott has served as a youth pastor in Artesia, N.M., and most recently as family pastor at Floydada Methodist Church, where he worked with children, youth and families.
His wife, Kaysi, was raised in the Abilene area and has the fondest memories of her time in Hamlin. She graduated high school from Eula, then went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. She attended physical therapy school at Hardin Simmons University, earning a doctorate in physical therapy. She is a skilled physical therapist who works with orthopedic and pelvic health populations. She has been practicing physical therapy since 2011. In ten years of marriage, the Grays have lived in six states and two countries as they completed their formal education and training. They have lived in a town of just under 2,000 people in Colorado, and two cites that had over 20 million people in India. There, Kaysi served as a director of a physical therapy clinic where she trained Indian therapists as well as treated patients.
The couple said they have been blessed to have such a wide range of experiences of living in different communities all over the world.
The Grays have two boys, Joshua, almost 4, and Aaron, is a year and a half. “My wife and I both were raised in smaller communities and are excited for the chance to raise our boys in a similar setting,” said Scott Gray. “We are excited about all that God has in store for us as we join in the work that God is already doing at Spur Methodist Church!” The Grays will be moving to Spur during the week following June 18. His first Sunday as pastor will be June 25. This is the monthly celebration of Dinner on the Grounds, and the church invites all to come to be a part of the service and welcome the Gray family to Spur.
