Introducing himself and three of his staff members at the Kent County Lions Club last month was newly named Rolling Plains Division manager Ben Greene of South Plains Electric Cooperative. Greene joined SPEC’s Lubbock headquarters three years ago as risk manager of the Cooperative for the last three years, a position that innvolved supervising the cooperative’s safety program as well as managing its commercial insurance needs.
The SPEC employees were on hand to present an electrical safety program for participants at the Kent County Library’s summer reading program.
In his new role as division manager Greene will plan, direct, supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of both Childress and Spur offices, in order to provide safe and reliable electric service to members. He will attend community events and be available to members. He will also continue his risk management responsibilities in a dual capacity.
Greene, who will relocate to Childress with his family, already knows the roads in the region well— he traveled to Spur and Childress on a monthly basis for five years in his safety position.
“I am excited to meet everyone and to serve the Rolling Plains,” said Greene. “Go Bulldogs and go Bobcats!”
Greene, a graduate of Texas Tech University and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, lived in Lubbock for 21 years. His wife, Jacy, is a registere nurse and a Lamesa native.
In addition to sharing their desire for involvement with the local community, the SPEC group discussed benefits of the electrical safety programs conducted for 4th grade students across their service area. Following the Lions Club meeting, they were conducting a similar safety program for the Summer Library program attendees.
Kevin Swaringen, district line supervisor, has worked at SPEC’s Spur office for 25 years. George Goodall has 29 years with the coop, and Brandon Boyd, who grew up on Pitchfork Ranch, went to work for SPEC eight years ago.
