South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up Employee Fund donated $1,500 to help replace the Matador Ranch historical marker that was destroyed in the June 2023 tornado. The Employee Fund committee represents the Cooperative employees, who unanimously voted to help the Motley County Historical Commission with the remainder of the needed funds.
South Plains Electric Cooperative employees began contributing to the Operation Round Up Employee Fund in 2000. The founding idea was to accumulate funds in case of a catastrophic on-job event for one of its employees—a situation the organization has, gratefully, not yet faced. The fund is also used for employee scholarships and community projects.
The group was thrilled to help with this specific community project, according to SPEC’s press release.
