A few weeks ago my husband and I were checking out all the great treasures at the Highway 70 garage sales. I found some new still-in-the-package pencils and notebook paper at one of the sales. I asked how much for the supplies and the seller said, “Aren’t you the lady from the library who does the school supply drive?”
I told her yes. Debbie Cadena was her name, and she told me about her church in Roaring Springs called Springs of Life. She said they had more school supplies in a warehouse at their church, and if we wanted them for the school supply drive to call her for a time and bring a truck.
We went—and she loaded us up with boxes and boxes of folders, binders, crayons, spiral notebooks and more. Thank you so much to Debbie, her church, and to pastor Russell Chandler and his wife, Chrissy. Your generosity will supply so many children with school supplies for the upcoming school year!
There were a few new books added recently. James Patterson’s “The House Next Door,” written with Susan DiLallo, is described like this: “Married mother of three Laura Sherman was thrilled when her new neighbor invited her on some errands. But a few quick tasks became a long lunch—and now things could go too far with a man who isn’t what he seems.”
In nonfiction we have the terrifying “No Beast So Fierce: The Terrifying True Story of the Champawat Tiger, the Deadliest Animal in History.” This is the astonishing true story of a man-eating tiger that claimed a record 437 human lives.
In audiobook format we have “21st Birthday,” also by James Patterson. This Women’s Murder Club mystery was written with Maxine Paetro.
In large print Christian fiction we have “Perestroika in Paris” by Jane Smiley and “The Woman with the Blue Star” by Pam Jenoff. In large print Western fiction we have “Dilly” by Matthew P. Mayo; “The Baker’s Dozen” by Ethan J Wolfe; “Ride for Justice: the Gunfighter Series,” a Ralph Compton western by Robert J. Randisi; and “The Cowboy Way: Stories of the Old West” by Elmer Kelton.
Check it all out at the Library.
