DECEMBER 6, 1945 The Texas Spur
Schools let out and the children came—the mamas came and the papas came; grandparents, too, were mere on Main street Wednesday at 3:00 o’clock when the Christmas program committee turned loose those big, fat Christmas gobblers donated by merchants of Spur, from the third story of the Campbell building.
Most of the turkeys seemed to prefer a path through the air toward the Safeway Store, Proctor’s and Swarz Bros. (You’d think a gobbler wouldn’t be so interested in the latest in canned goods and finery. One fellow was almost bagged right under the window from which it was tossed by a gobbler who was bored by the whole thing and who disdained to do anything except fall straight down. One gray-haired lady had her hair combed by a turkey whose feet raked her head, sailing on to be caught by someone else. The next turkey flew straight oward the lady, however, and this time, she cabbaged on to it with a vengeance. One young man standing on a roof was lookig the other way when a bird skidded down his back to be caught by his companion of the roof. The young man seemed to be using very expressive language at his failure to grab the turkey.
