Spur 4th of July celebrations slated for 2022

During the first week of spring, it’s not too early to be circling dates on summer calendars in Spur. Families and community members are eager to get outdoors and enjoy themselves after two long years of pandemic delays and restrictions.

On Saturday, July 2, the Spur Volunteer Fire Department will again host an allday celebration of the holiday in Swenson Park, followed by fireworks at dark.

“We are planning on having fireworks and water events again this year pending drought conditions on water restrictions and fire hazards,” said fire chief Wess Abbott.

Community members are crossing fingers for the Spur pool to be open by then. The Texas Spur will report as more details are known.

In addition, the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing a 4th of July parade down Burlington Avenue on Monday, July 4. Details are still to be determined, but fire trucks have already been recruited. Volunteers are needed in addition to vehicles wishing to participate in the parade. Those interested should contact Grace Hadding via the Chamber email, spurchamber@gmail.com.
