Spur Area Chamber elects officers, sets event dates

Some familiar events and

familiar faces will be returning to this fall’s Spur Area Chamber of Commerce, along with one newcomer to the organization’s board of directors.

At its regular monthly meeting Monday, Sept. 19, members held elections for its upcoming slate of officers. Re-elected for a second term as president is Matt McArthur of Spur. Steve Bridges was elected vice president; Janet Bridges will serve as secretary; and Taylor Howerton will serve as treasurer. All are from Spur.

On the board of directors, Martha Pickens of Spur continues her current term, and since Howerton was elected to the slate of officers, the two vacancies for new three-year terms will be filled by Gayle Massaro and Greg Hardin, also of Spur.

Plans for two favorite fourth-quarter events were discussed.

Trunk or Treat will take place Saturday, Oct. 29, in the parking lot of Lawrence Brothers Grocery Store on Burlington Avenue in Spur. Trunk-or-teating is scheduled for the hours of 6 to 8 p.m., for all ages. Vehicle setup will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and is open to any local group or individual wishing to decorate a trunk and provide goodies. Two dates are options for Christmas- season Late Night Shopping along Burlington Avenue: Thursday, Dec. 1 or Thursday, Dec. 8. Planners are checking with other community groups to avoid event conflicts and determine the best choice. Downtown merchants are encourged to join in planning, to create an enjoyable evening of retail activity, food, and fun!

In other business, outgoing treasurer Gayle Massaro reported a bank balance of $2912.12, and the chamber approved renewing annual participation in the Texas Midwest Community Network on behalf of Dickens County.
