Spur Art Guild’s September 2023 show open for entries

As Spur, Texas prepares to celebrate its 71st annual fall Homecoming weekend Sept. 21–23, an ever-popular local event is open even to those without Spur connections.

The long-running Spur Art Guild, which is active year-round with monthly gatherings, hosts one exhibition a year, on Homecoming weekend. Entries are open to amateur and professional artists in a wide variety of media, nonmembers and members alike.

Entry categories are Acrylic, Oil, Watercolor, Pastel, Graphics, Miniatures, Photograph and Youth. The Guild reserves the right to change or combine categories if there are fewer than eight entries in a particular category.

Work must meet the following guidelines: No artwork may be entered that has previously won a first place or best of show award at the Spur Art Guild art shows. All two-dimensional entries must be ready for hanging with proper wire hangers (no sawtooth hangers allowed). No class work, kits, wet paint, or works deemed in poor taste will be accepted.

All entries are to remain on exhibit until the close of the show. Although great care is taken with entries, the Spur Art Guild cannot be responsible for any loss or damage.

Entry fees are $5 for Guild members and $10 for non-members. An annual membership is $20. Fees are payable by check or cash only.

Entries are accepted on one specific day, Thursday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Judging takes place shortly afterward and the show opens to the public on Friday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Spur Art Guild building, 319 Burlington Avenue in downtown Spur.

Prize money is paid, and purchase awards are available.
