As the tiny town of Spur prepares to celebrate 70 years of one of the state’s most widely attended Homecoming celebrations Oct. 6–8, an everpopular aspect of the weekend is open even to those without Spur connections.
The long-running Spur Art Guild, which is active yearround with monthly gatherings, hosts one exhibition a year, on Homecoming weekend. Entries are open to amateur and professional artists in a wide variety of media, nonmembers and members alike.
Work must be framed or otherwise ready for display, and entries are accepted on one specific day, Thursday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Judging takes place shortly afterward and the show opens to the public on Friday, Oct. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Spur Art Guild building, in the 300 block of Burlington Avenue in downtown Spur.
Prize money is paid, and purchase awards are available.
