TheSpurBulldogs took on Irion County in Blackwell ThursdayAugust 31, losing 48–0. The Bulldog team is rebuilding after losing players to injuries—and dealing with the fact of being a young team, many of whom are taking the varsity field this year for the first time. The Bulldog team is in era of rebuilding and keeping the positive attitude while working together to play the game they love.
Spur started the game receiving the ball. The bulldogs tried pushing through the Hornets’ defensive line but fell short of scoring. The Bulldogs’ defense held tough and fought with all they had towards a strong Hornets offensive line. The Bulldogs executed thirty-three plays with a total of seventy-one yards. Ace Walker led the passing yards with fifteen and the rushing yards of thirty-five. Preston Abbott had fifteen receiving yards as well.
The Bulldogs’ defensive line proved tough with a total twenty-two tackles. JD Hamilton led the tackles with a total of seven, and Margarito Pesina trailing with five tackles. The team stuck together and pushed through the adversity of losing players from last week.
Head Coach Tate Clark left the game with a few words. “We saw some things that we really like as far as improvements,” he said. “We still have a ways to go, but kids are starting to do things we asked.”
