In a brief called meeting at the Spur Community Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, the Spur city council held its announced hearing on the 2021–22 budget and tax rate. No members of the public were present to participate or comment.
Council members reviewed draft budget documents and discussed minor revisions and corrections. Mayor Louise Jones thanked Dickens County tax assessor Rebecca Haney and county treasurer Darla Thomason for being in attendance for the public hearings. No action was taken. The next step in the process, in next regular city council meeting, Mayor Jones explained, will be to consider adopting budget and tax rate.
In other business, alderman Froyne Morris made a motion, seconded by alderman Laidy Vasquez, to promote current city clerk Ashley Carothers to the city secretary position. The motion carried, 4–0. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
Present were mayor Louise Jones and city council members Fronye Morris, Laidy Vasquez and Glenda White; council member Rhea Melton was present via audioconference. Council members Don Wright and Crystal Leary were absent.
