The Dixie Dog, a fixture on Spur’s Hill Street for nearly 70 years, opened with new ownership and management this week, and has already implemented some changes in their menu, hours and ambience.
Alex Perry has been named the new manager of the Dixie Dog by new owner Johnna Mc-Cloy. A Spur native, Perry has worked at the Dixie Dog for two years. She said that in the short term the Dixie Dog will only offer drive-through service. “Right now, we are waiting on the new tables and chairs we have ordered,” she said.
The restaurant will be open six days a week. Monday through Saturday and has expanded its hours. It will be open from 6:30 to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As for menu changes, Perry noted that they’ve add a lot of different specialty burgers and wrap sandwiches, as well as Keto diet selections. “We’re looking to offer more healthy options,” she said.
Some version of the Dixie Dog in Spur has been open off and on since the 1950s. The previous owners, Cheryl and Bill Bouher, owned the restaurant from 2013 until 2020.
The new ownership will have four employees, including the owner.
