The Spur High School Class of 2023 scramble was held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the course in Swenson Park. One of the best things to me about living in a small town is the support and love given in all aspects of life. It is always especially very heartwarming to me to see the support of our community for the kids. Saturday was no exception! What a great day it was! Eighteen teams came out to play. A great time was had by all, and a good amount of money was raised to help these kids have an awesome senior trip.
Championship flight winners were Oran Hamilton, Rick Paschall, Dale McGalliard and Brad Pitts with their score of 45. Coming in 2nd place with their score of 47 was the team of Floyd Starkey, Sue Starkey, Vanessa McGalliard and Wade McGalliard.
Winning 1st place in the first flight was the team of Freddy Gonzalez, Kevin Marshall, Bryn Arnold and Gavin Arnold with a score of 53. Taking home 2nd place was the team of Lance Harris, Norman Hill, Rory Moseley and Willie Neufeld with a score of 54.
Second flight winners were the teams of Taylor Rife, Kristen Rife, Damien Salas and Israel Islas and the team of Vance Parsons, Ismael Islas, Chris Daniel and Austin Via Gomez who came into the clubhouse tied with a score of 58.
Congratulations to Taylor Rife, who had the longest drive for the day. Trent Day won closest to the pin on No. 8 with his drive landing 8’2” from the hole. Way to go Taylor and Trent!
Seth McMinn, with Elite Fundraising, was on hand to offer an additional closest to the pin and hole in one contest from the Hero Program. The Hero program supports veterans by providing service dogs, advanced prosthetics, scholarships, financial aid and PTSD counseling. We appreciate Seth coming out for the good of the Hero program and a percentage of the proceeds were donated back to the Class of 2023. Winning the Hero closest to the pin contest were Richard Lewis, with his drive landing 10’11” from the hole and Kristen Rife,who landed her drive 22’6” from the hole.

Golf Scramble results, May 31
Although it was hot and humid, there was a great turnout for Scramble Time Tuesday! Six teams were formed, and three places were paid out.
The team of Tyler Luke, Aubrey Luke, Andy Garcia, Justin Posey and Lesli Clark and the team of Russell Conrad, Dana Conrad, Daniel Perez, Derek Ninneman and Wes Joplin came into the clubhouse with a 5 under par and a score of 31 following the regular round. After a tough 2-hole playoff between the teams, the team of Conrad, Conrad, Perez, Ninneman and Joplin prevailed, with Russell Conrad sinking a beautiful birdie putt to for their team to take home 1st place.
The team of Andy Daugh try, Shane Parsons, Charla Parsons, Robert Daughtry and Russell Marshall and the team of Jason Tanner, Landon White, Don Kaneski and Freddy Gonzalez rolled back to the clubhouse after the regular round with a score of 33 and 3 under par. The team of Daughtry, Daughtry, Parsons, Parsons and Marshall came out victorious in that playoff and to take home 3rd place.
Congratulations to Floyd Starkey, who got closest to the pin on No. 8, with his drive hitting 2 feet 2 inches from the hole.
Until someone lands their drive on No. 1, that money pot will roll over and continue to grow.
