Spur ISD

Spur ISD Superintendent Craig Hamilton said he is very thankful for the hard work and dedication from the teachers and students of Spur ISD during the 2021–22 school year.

“Although we are never satisfied, I am very proud of the efforts made regarding STAAR standardized testing and everything else that we were successful in last year,” he said. “We were rated a B overall (88) rating, but that does not tell the tale of students and teachers’ success last year.

“There is a great deal of data that goes into this rating given by TEA. We are scored in three categories. In the category of Student Achievement, we received an A (90).The second category is School Progress; we were rated an A (91). In this category, TEA compares you to other schools with similar economically disadvantaged populations. The final category is Closing the Gaps; we received a B (81). Districts earn a B (80–89) when 62% or more of student groups have met state goals. This shows recognized work at closing gaps between groups. Even in districts where many students perform well, performance gaps may exist among different groups of students. The Closing the Gaps domain looks at each group of students separately and sets achievement targets for those groups in the four different areas. The more targets that are met, the more points are awarded. Spur ISD received a distinction designation in ELA/Reading.

Hamilton noted that the State of Texas and TEA have developed this grading system to compare school districts against one another. “This grading system is not a true reflection of a school district whether a district received an A, B, C, D, or F,”he said.“You cannot compare districts’ student populations because it’s not apples to apples. Each district is unique and has a different student demographic.”
