In the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board on March 27, trustees voted to accept the volunteer security services of a retired peace officer under Texas Education Code 37.087 to allow the officer to carry a firearm for the protection of Spur ISD students, staff and visitors as such places and times as determined by the district’s administration.
In other board action, trustees voted to approve Tax Deed 5304, 5398, and 5622 as presented.
Trustees voted unanimously for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Professional Development Waiver for the Texas Education Agency.
The board also approved the National Incident Management System as presented.
Superintendent Craig Hamilton presented to the board the principal’s report for both campuses and discussed with the board the 2023 SHARS Preliminary Cost Report also discussed the Department of Public Safety Officer’s use of Spur ISD Facilities.
The board convened in executive session at 8:07 p.m. and ended its closed executive session at 8:51 p.m. with the following action taken in open session: A motion was made by Pat Ortiz and seconded by Casey Smith to extend the current contract of elementary principal Jose Molina by one year from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2025. The motion passed 7-0.
No action was taken on secondary principal David Burton’s current contract.
Adjournment: With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
