In the monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees on Nov. 22, 2021, trustees agreed upon principles for use in its redistricting process and to form a citizens’ advisory committee on redistricting.
In other board action, trustees agreed to the purchase of a new telephone system from Cap Rock Telephone and also agreed to purchase new technology equipment to replace the aging infrastructure in the secondary and Dome buildings.
In his superintendent’s report, Craig Hamilton discussed the ESSER II and ESSER III Federal Grant Needs Assessment and Plans.
The Board convened in executive session at 7:15 p.m. to consult with legal counsel to receive advice concerning compliance with the Voting Rights Acts of 1965 regarding redistricting of single-member districts. The board ended its closed session at 8:15 p.m.
Trustees then deliberated in open session on items discussed in the closed session.
The board approved a resolution adopting principles for use in the 2021 redistricting process, as presented.
Trustees then approved a resolution stating guidelines for persons submitting redistricting plans and comments, as presented.
The board approved the following citizens as members of a redistricting advisory committee to study plans for single-member voting districts following the 2020 Census to make a formal recommendation to the board: Louise Jones, Jose Molina, Doreen Schmidt, Annie Walker, Freddie Gonzalez, Kermit Wooley, Andrew Adams, Cameron Neaves and Joanna Bateman, as presented.
