In the regular meeting of the Spur ISD School Board held August 23, 2021, board members approved a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan. Staff will continue to regularly sanitize desks, chairs and cafeteria tables, as well as other surfaces. Temperatures will be taken each day, and students will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently.
Discussion was held concerning personnel leave. Although teachers receive five state and five local days for a total of ten, the district considered extending an additional ten sick days that could be applied in case of illness or quarantine but would not be rolled over to the following year if unused. The proposal was approved.
Elementary and secondary principals’ reports included praise for new and returning instructors for positive strategies upon entering the school year. New software programs for math and reading will be available this year. The Ag department has acquired a new 3-D printer, a plasma table, and drones. Board members approved an adjunct faculty agreement with new extension agent Rusty Lanier to work with students who are raising animals through Dickens County 4-H. FFA guidelines were discussed regarding students with animals.
The members voted to proceed with a letter of engagement allowing CPA firm Terry & King to perform the district’s financial audit. The district’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment Student Performance Plan was approved. The Interlocal agreement with other nearby districts for the transportation of transfer students was also approved.
