Spur to light up downtown as part of annual late night holiday shopping Dec. 2

Spur’s annual Late Night Holiday Shopping event, organized by the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce, will be Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. throughout downtown.

One important update to note from last week’s story is that rather than a Christmas tree lighting, Chamber members will be stringing lights along Burlington Avenue to encourage downtown shopping throughout the season. Merchants are encouraged to decorate their own windows and light up their storefronts as well.

The Spur Community Center will be hosting vendors with wares ranging from gifts, decorations and toys to food items, clothing, accessories and more, and some downtown merchants are extending their hours. Check with your favorite downtown stores regarding their hours.

A tasty tradition returns to the festivities in 2021. The Spur Masonic Lodge will be hosting its pancake supper from 6 to 8 p.m. at the lodge at 309 Burlington Avenue (note this time is different from the wrong hours published in last week’s issue). The event is open to the public, with donations accepted for the meal.

This year’s pancake supper event features a special prize drawing—an Oklahoma Joe's Pellet Smoker (value $650). All proceeds go to the Spur Masonic Lodge Scholarship fund that enables local students to further their education One raffle ticket is $10; six tickets are $50. A winner will be drawn on December 2, 2021 at the lodge at 6 p.m. All proceeds from the dinner also go into the lodge’s scholarship fund.

The Texas Spur will introduce a new holiday tradition, with the debut of a Spur collectible coffee mug. This year’s design, “A Night at the Palace,” was created by Spur artist Vicki Glass Diggs. The artist will be on hand from 6 to 7 p.m. to sign mugs. Mugs are $15 each.

Speaking of The Palace Theater, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the theater from 6 to 8 p.m. so that families can get keepsake photos made for the holidays.

Those interested in signing u p for vendor spots at the Community Center should contact the Chamber at (806) 271-3097.
