Recent weeks have brought big changes to staffing at the Kent County Nursing Home during challenging times for hiring—but soon a nearby native will be returning to the area to head up the team.
Kent County officials have hired Jordan Moeller, a 2012 Spur High School graduate and a graduate of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, as administrator of the 60-bed facility starting August 2. Moeller will fill the position vacated by Bobby Simpkins, who resigned June 10. The facility is currently under the leadership of acting assistant administrator Sandra Hudgins, who will continue in the assistant administrator role when Moeller arrives.
Moeller, currently living in Midland, will be moving to Spur with her husband and five children. The family expects to establish a home on the ranch land of her father, Ray Faubus of Spur.
“It is truly an honor to come back and serve the communities that raised me,” said Moeller, who also said that long-term care was always her career goal. Moeller earned her TTUHSC degree in speech, language and hearing science, and her nursing home administrator certification through Southeast Community College.
Kent County Judge Jim C. White said that he has high hopes for the “connections with the area” that Moeller will bring to the job.
In additional action by the Kent County Commission, which oversees the nursing home, Starla Sessums of Brownfield will begin as director of nursing in mid-July. Sessums, a Levelland High School graduate who received her nursing training at Vernon College according to her Facebook profile, is married to Richard Sessums.
The Texas Spur anticipates doing more in-depth profiles on these new leaders of the Kent County Nursing Home staff later this summer.
